The deal
Royalty Roofing USA, headquartered in Seymour, Ind., and founded in 1986, has acquired Tingley Roofing of Paris, Ill. Tingley, founded by John Tingley, serves homeowners and businesses around Danville, Brazil, Effingham and Charleston. Terms were not disclosed.
Tingley will keep its name and branding. Royalty founder Andy Royalty said the companies share Midwest values and a focus on quality work, and that integration is being handled to keep the change smooth for customers and employees.
Royalty says this is its fourth acquisition this year, a pace that shows how quickly regional roofers are using acquisitions to grow into neighboring states.
Not every buyer is a Wall Street name. Founder-led regional companies are some of the most active acquirers in roofing, and they often keep the local brand because it carries the reputation. For an owner, that can mean a buyer who understands the work and the community, but it can also mean less cash at close than a PE platform would offer. Know which kind of buyer you're talking to.
What this means if you own a roofing company
- Regional strategic buyers are active. Four acquisitions in eight months shows real appetite from operator-owned roofers.
- Your name has value. Buyers that keep your brand are paying for the trust it carries in your market.
- Mixed residential and commercial work is fine. Tingley serves both, which broadens the buyer's reach.
