The deal
Precision Door Tri-State, a multi-territory franchisee in the Precision Garage Door Service system backed by Monogram Capital Partners, has acquired Foris Solutions, a Plymouth, Mich.-based franchisee founded in 2010. Terms were not disclosed.
Foris operates territories in Southeast, Mid and West Michigan, Indiana, Delaware and Maryland, Austin and Akron. The combined company spans nine states and is described as one of the largest operators in the Precision Door system.
Foris founder Steve Freitas stays on as a minority shareholder and joins the combined board, and Foris COO Doug Issacson becomes COO of the combined company.
Garage doors have quietly become one of the most active corners of home services M&A, and franchisees are part of it. A strong multi-territory franchise business can be a real acquisition target, and owners like Freitas can sell a majority while keeping a stake and a board seat. That kind of partial exit lets an owner take money off the table and still share in what comes next.
What this means if you own a garage door company
- Franchisees can sell too. Multi-territory franchise groups attract private equity just like independents.
- Partial exits exist. Keeping a minority stake and a board seat can be part of the deal.
- Your team is the asset. Here the target's COO ran the combined company. Strong managers raise value.
