The deal
Southern Home Services has acquired Dunn's HVAC, Plumbing & Electrical, a multi-trade company headquartered in Anniston, Ala., with major operations in Pelham serving the greater Birmingham area. Terms were not disclosed.
Dunn's has built a reputation over roughly a decade serving residential and commercial customers across central and eastern Alabama. Donny Dunn remains owner and Maegan Dunn continues as COO, and Southern says it will preserve the local brand's culture.
Southern pointed to Dunn's process-driven operations and team culture as the fit, and expects its own resources to help the business grow faster without giving up service quality.
Buyers kept coming back to one word here: process. A company that runs on documented systems, not just the owner's memory, is easier to buy, easier to grow and worth more. Ten years is not a long history, but a well-run three-trade shop in a growing metro can be as attractive as a much older single-trade business.
What this means if you own a multi-trade company
- Systems raise value. Written processes, clean reporting and a team that runs without you are what buyers point to.
- You don't need 40 years. A decade of strong growth and reputation can be enough to attract a major consolidator.
- Three trades, one customer. Multi-trade companies give buyers more revenue per household, which buyers value.
