The deal

TruTemp Services, an Apex, N.C.-based residential HVAC, plumbing and electrical company, has acquired two HVAC businesses south of Raleigh: D&D HVAC in Sanford and Sandhills Heating & Refrigeration in Aberdeen. TruTemp is backed by private equity firms Centre Partners and Baldwin Creek Partners. Financial terms were not disclosed.

D&D HVAC was founded in 2006 and handles installation, replacement, maintenance and repair for property owners, homebuilders and general contractors. Sandhills Heating & Refrigeration dates to 1976 and covers HVAC and electrical work, with a long history serving custom homebuilders and homeowners in the Sandhills region.

Both owners are staying on. Dairus Davis will continue to lead D&D, and Bradford Hainley will continue to lead Sandhills. Together with TruTemp's 2025 purchase of Maynor Service Company, the deals give the platform a connected footprint from Raleigh and Durham through Apex and Sanford down to Aberdeen.

The V2 take

This is a textbook regional build-out. Buyers like TruTemp aren't just buying revenue; they're buying route density, a recurring maintenance base and owners who know the local builders. A buyer bought two companies of very different ages at once, so there is no single “right” profile, and both owners stayed in the seat, which usually signals the buyer valued their relationships as much as their trucks.

What this means if you own an HVAC company in the Southeast

  • Buyers are building corridors. If your service area sits next to a platform's footprint, you may be worth more to that buyer than to anyone else.
  • Builder work counts. Both companies serve homebuilders alongside homeowners. A mixed book isn't a deal-breaker when relationships are strong.
  • Staying on is often part of the deal. Decide early whether you want to keep leading after a sale; it shapes which buyers fit.
